It’s a big week for the Top 3 contestants on American Idol Season 9. With the show’s finale quickly approaching, the Top 3 – Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox and Casey James- enjoyed visits to their hometowns before heading back to L.A. to get ready sing two songs each on Tuesday night’s performance episode. With the Judge’s Choice and the Contestant’s Choice as their song selections this week, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the Idol hopefuls will sing.
The Judge’s Choice Song Selections
The Judge’s choice song selections have already been revealed and frankly I’m a tad baffled. Not loving these picks, but I guess the judges know what they’re doing. Here’s the songs that the judge’s picked for the Top 3:
Lee DeWyze– “Hallelujah” (chosen by Simon Cowell)
Crystal Bowersox– “Maybe I’m Amazed” / Paul McCartney (chosen by Ellen DeGeneres)
Casey James- “Daughters” /John Mayer (chosen by Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson)
Contestant’s Choice
Now this is what I’m really looking forward to. FINALLY the contestants get to pick whatever song they want. This is their chance to show their fans what kind of artist they want to be, instead of being force fed sappy movie theme songs or songs outside of their musical genre. While the contestants choice song picks haven’t been announced yet, here’s what I’d like to see:
Lee DeWyze- We know he likes Simon and Garfunkle, but some of Lee’s other influences include Eric Clapton and Cat Stevens. I would actually love to see him do an Eric Clapton song– maybe “Layla” or “Wonderful Tonight”.
Crystal Bowersox- She already performed Alannis Morissette’s “Hand in My Pocket” earlier this season, but I’d love to see Crystal do the angrier, “You Oughta Know”. But more than likely MamaSox will pick something bluesier.
Casey James– Something bluesy, rocking, and yes, let him bring out his electric guitar! After the Judge’s Choice ballad, I’d like to see Casey where he’s most comfortable, even if it includes a crazed electric guitar solo.
You can catch the Top 3 performances on American Idol on Tuesday May 18th at 8:00 PM ET/PT on FOX. And on Wednesday night, get ready for the tweeny boppers to invade the American Idol audience, because teen idol Justin Bieber will be in the house.
