Wednesday night on the American Idol Season 9 results show, host Ryan Seacrest joined forces with pop star Queen Latifah for the Idol Gives Back campaign. But amidst all the feel-good charity work of Idol Gives Back, it was still an elimination night. Who went home on the American Idol April 21st results show?
After some surprisingly uninspiring performances during “Inspirational Songs ” week, the judges really only had high praise for Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox. Casey James, Aaron Kelly and the other Idol hopefuls failed to impress the judges (Big Mike Lynche sang the theme song from the Spiderman movie, as Simon Cowell humorously pointed out). But America’s votes are what really matter on American Idol, so it was still anyone’s game as we headed into Wednesday night’s results show.
The Wednesday night show also coincided with the Idol Gives Back campaign, which raises money for charities all over the world. It kicked off with a message from the President and Michelle Obama and featured performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, Jeff Beck with Joss Stone and Mary J. Blige (singing Stairway to Heaven??). Comedian George Lopez even judged the judges, banishing Simon Cowell to England.
Finally, host Ryan Seacrest gave us our bottom 3. The bottom 3 turned out to be Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Tim Urban.
Meanwhile, as more footage about the Idol Gives Back campaign continued, the bottom 3 looked ridiculous in their matching white leisure suits. They looked like the Bee Gees.
In the final minutes of the show, Aaron Kelly was deemed safe. Tweens and cougars across the nation quaked in their boots as they waited with bated breath to see who would be going home- Casey or Tim.
Sadly (for the tweens) Tim Urban was given the bad news that he was going home.
While Tim had a shaky start on Idol, in recent weeks he had proved that he deserved to be there. It’s a sad day for Idol- and for the folks at Vote For the Worst.
So with Teflon Tim/ Turban now gone, here are the Top 6 American Idol contestants:
Crystal Bowersox, 24, Toledo, Ohio
Siobhan Magnus, 20, Marstons Mills, Mass.
Aaron Kelly, 17, Sonestown, Pa.
Casey James, 27, Fort Worth, Texas
Lee DeWyze, 24, Mount Prospect, Ill.
Michael Lynche, 26, Astoria, N.Y.
You can catch the next episode of American Idol on Tuesday, April 27th at 8:00 PM ET/PT on FOX.
