The military has brought us such great inventions as the Internet, then followed shortly after by the GPS system, we widely use as civilians. Now we are left to wonder, what other amazing technologies are they working on now?
Amazing New Military Technology: The UAV.
What does UAV mean you ask, well simply put it’s an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Flying the skies with no pilot gives it many advantages. One of these advantages may be to prevent soldiers from needing to be put into dangerous situations. Another advantage to a UAV is the capability of reaching higher speeds, without concern of the pilots capability to withstand the G-Force or (Gravitational Force).
Amazing New Military Technology: The BEAR.
The BEAR (Battle Field Extraction Robot) by ‘Vecna Robots’ is a fully autonomous robot which is capable of lifting up to 500LBS. The BEAR stands on a set of treads much like a tractor tread, and closely resembles the robots you’re use to seeing in those 80’s movies. This robot has more to it then just that, the robots job is to navigate dangerous caves, caverns, and war fields, for the extraction of injured or blocked in troops and civilians.
Amazing New Military Technology: NEXI.
NEXI is about as close to a humanoid as one can expect to get in this day and age, and he has joined the Navy. The naval forces plan to use this robot now named Octavia as an extractor, to get troops out of dangerous situations, without expending any more lives then necessary. While NEXI is a bit like the BEAR, it features the ability to speak, motion, and gesture, in order to better accommodate human interactions. The Navy hopes this will make people feel much more comfortable with the cybernetic companion, and less apprehensive about it’s purpose. At first look Nexi may remind you of the movie ‘I, Robot’ which isn’t far from the reality of it’s capabilities.
Amazing New Military Technology: The JLTV.
The JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) is a new spin on the original Humvee, which is lighter, faster, and more efficient then it’s predecessors. The JLTV serves as both a cargo hauler, and an ambulance, with a thick outer shell designed to withstand even the most devastating of attacks, while in enemy territory. With a top speed of up to 102 miles per hour, the JLTV is sure to get our troops out of some of the most dangerous situations fast.
Amazing New Military Technology: The BATL.
The BATL (Boeings Advanced Tactical Laser) is on the cutting edge of laser weapons technology. While there have been tests and uses of laser technology on the ground, the matter of getting a proper target at the speeds of a flying plane where a bit of a problem. “Why bother?” You might ask. Well the reasons for using lasers are fairly simple, the collateral damage is very minute when compared to bombs, or missiles. A fly by plane, could potentially assassinate a man in a crowed, without engaging any unnecessary civilians.
Amazing New Military Technology: Personal thoughts.
The military today is advancing our current technology at astounding rates, and we may soon see a day when robotics control the vast majority of our military, but this leaves us with a question. What of the people who are to be replaced by these robots? Will their jobs remain secured?
If one robot can do the same job as 20 medics, then why do we need medics in the first place? Wouldn’t all of this make war more like a game then a serious matter? Some more recent movies about these new technologies have hit on this very topic.
‘Eagle Eye’ is one such movie, where the plot surrounds a new military device designed to track the entire civilian population, and determine threats in advance. This leads to total control of us by a computer. What’s your perspective on the implementation of cybernetics, or robotics in the military?
