According to a tweet on Twitter, Amanda Bynes, the famous 24 year old Hollywood actress says she’s retiring from acting. She’s done. In one of several tweets on Twitter she said, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem. If I don’t love something anymore I stop doing it.” Then a little while later, Bynes tweeted “I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first,” she tweeted. “I’ve retired.” But is Amanda Bynes really retiring and should we believe what she says?
Amanda Bynes first became popular as the host of her own show, “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodeon. She soon transitioned into teen movies making such hits as “She’s The Man” and “Sydney White”. Not your stereotypical girly-girl, the tomboyish yet beautiful Amanda Bynes soon had quite a following from girls who were sick of the Miss Prisses of the Hollywood movie world and guys who liked a more ‘best friend’ type of girl.
In the few years since she hit the big screen though, she’s only made a handful of movies. Her latest movie “Easy A” will hit the screen in September and, that’s when I think Amanda Bynes will come out of ‘retirement’. Because, sorry Amanda Bynes, but if you’re really retiring from acting in movies, you don’t announce it on Twitter.
Twitter, as every teen and young adult knows, is filled with teen and young folks’ angst. It’s literal diarrhea of the mouth for millions of young people all over the world, who tweet whatever inane thought pops into their minds in the 30 seconds it takes to write a tweet. So, what sounded like a good idea at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon, when you’ve nothing else to do, doesn’t sound so great at 9am on a Monday morning when your irate agent is on the phone demanding to know “What happened?”
My guess is, instead of actually wanting to quit, Amanda Bynes is simply bored with the awful parts she’s being offered and the string of bad luck she’s had in the last couple of years (other actresses being cast in parts Bynes wanted and TV series like “Canned” being, literally, canned).
My other guess is, as much as she might want to be, Amanda Bynes isn’t a quitter. She strikes me as being one of those ‘tough as nails’ girls, who can get through anything if she tries hard enough. And getting through a string of bad luck and some terrible parts, to move forward to get the good stuff is just a matter of hard work and time.
Other actresses in the past have also thought about quitting, but stuck with it only to end up with the role of a lifetime a few months later. Amanda Bynes is talented enough that, if she sticks with it, there’s no reason the same won’t happen to her. And I, for one, hope it does.
