All Natural Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad Review

by itchy fish

For the past two years I have been drastically changing my lifestyle. I work out 4-5 times a day, and I watch what i eat. Not only do I count my calories and fat grams, but I am also trying to make my diet less acidic and more alkaline. In order to do that, I am consuming more vegetables, and I often purchase bagged salad at my grocery stores.

Walmart carries a great green salad mix, called Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad, which comes in a small 12 ounce bag for only $1.50. This product is all natural, and contains hand selected iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots. This is a product of the U.S.A.

Marketside products are marketed for Walmart stores, and they guarantee your satisfaction, and that you will find this salad mix “Fresh and wholesome”. This definitely fits into my diet plans, because one and a half cups of the salad mixture contains only 15 calories and zero grams of fat! The bag contains enough to serve four people 1 1/2 cups, so this generally lasts me for 4 days.

What a healthy way to eat. A serving of Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad has no cholesterol, only 10 mg of sodium, a mere 3 grams of carbohydrates, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 2 grams of sugars, and it even has 1 gram of protein. A serving also provides 25% of your daily amount of vitamin A, 2% of your calcium, 8% of your vitamin C, and 2% of your iron!

The sections of Iceberg lettuce are broken up into nice, bite sized pieces. The carrots and red cabbage pieces are shredded and plentiful, and their color adds a nice eye appeal to any salad. I have always found this salad mix to be fresh and tasty. It does not have the frills of some of the more expensive brands of bagged lettuce, such as a ziplock style closure. I simply roll the bag down, squeeze the air out, and clip the bag closed with a simply closepin or other style clip.

The Marketside Classic Iceberg Salad does not have a real long shelf life, and if I let this bag remain in my refrigerator for more than five days, the lettuce starts to get a little slimy and discolored. I don’t find this a problem, because I can never finish off the larger, more expensive bags, so this 12 ounce size is perfect for me.

My only problem is finding it in stock! Walmart seems to sell a lot of this salad mix, and today I was out of luck and had to pick up a similar product at my local Fred Meyer store. For the price of $1.50, it is hard to go wrong. I love that my salad is all prepared for me, just dump it into a bowl, pour some healthy dressing on top, and I am good to go.
