Recently I was given some fun groceries as a gift. Among these groceries was Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms. I love red potatoes and had tried other food products from this brand so I was particularly excited about trying this out. I made the dish with some chicken, rice, and salad.
According to the packaging it would take about 10 or 12 minutes to cook the Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms. With this in mind I tried to time every dish in the dinner appropriately so they would all be done at about the same time. Before I could start cooking the dish though I had to thaw out the season oil pouch that came with it. This was an easy task that was accomplished by letting the pouch rest in some warm water. In a couple of minutes the oil was no longer frozen and ready to be added to a pan.
Unfortunately for me the Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms called for the use of a non-stick pan. I do not have a non-stick pan so I just used stainless steel. However I was concerned that it would likely burn, especially after I saw the small amount of oil that the package came with. It looked like a suitable amount for non-stick but not for stainless steel, so I added just a bit of my own cooking oil. The oil heated up in no time, and considering they say to have the heat on medium-high I was not surprised. At that heat I was a little concerned how everything would cook.
Thankfully I did not burn the Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms and I have the extra amount of oil to thank for that. The dish was not greasy so I think that I used the perfect amount of oil. It only took me 10 minutes to cook the dish and I only had to stir occasionally. However, at about 5 minutes in I turned the heat down to medium. Everything looked really good when I pulled it off the burner and poured it in the bowl I planned on serving it in. However, now it was time for the big test.
The taste of the Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms is definitely mushroomy and if you like mushrooms this is good. I am not that big of mushrooms myself but my son is and he enjoyed the potatoes very much. This surprised me because he is not that big of a fan of potatoes. I tried to just get potatoes and green beans, there were a few of those too in the bag, and mushrooms a side I was able to enjoy the meal. I thought that the potatoes were not overwhelmingly seasoned, so one thing I would do differently if I cooked them again is I’d add seasoning. Most of the potatoes had a great texture but some of the small piece were a little mushy, but the green beans still had a nice amount of crunch to them and great flavor.
All in all the taste of the product was good, I would recommend it if you like mushrooms and do not mind having to add some seasoning. The ingredients and nutrition facts were not too bad. The nutrition facts of the Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms were for 1 and 1/4 cup of food. In this serving amount there was 140 calories with 70 calories from fat. Also there were 190 milligrams of sodium, 15 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protiens. The minerals and vitamins section listed vitamins A, E and C, thiamine, niacin, and magnesium with 6%, zinc and riboflavin with 4%, folate and manganese with 15%, iron with 2% and vitamin B6 with 10%. The sodium and calories from fat were a little high but not that bad.
The ingredients were not that bad either. The Alexia All Natural Roasted Red Potatoes & Baby Portabella Mushrooms consist of red roasted potatoes made of red potatoes and disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate that is used to retain color. There was also baby portabella mushrooms, green beans, onions, canola oil, and less than 2% of parsely, water, salt, olive oil, thyme, black pepper, soy lecithin, and natural flavor. I may not be as recommending about the ingredients and nutrition facts, but all in all they were not too bad. I was glad that I tried these in addition to previously trying their Sweet Potato Julienne Fries, Oven Fries with Olive Oil, Rosemary and Garlic, and Organic Yukon Gold Julienne Fries with Sea Salt and I hope to try more of their products in the future.
