It is well worth the trip to Durbin Farms, a 40-minute drive north of Montgomery, Alabama. Current owners Danny and Judy Jones keep the 70-year old tradition of the Durbins’ small roadside stand going. Peaches are the main crop. Big Bob Gibson

The Free Pie Movement was launched by five graphic designers to gather people together for conversation using pie as the unifier. PieLab, part of Project M, is designed to bring the community together for conversation and networking. The PieLab’s building was built by a group of YouthBuild volunteers from reclaimed materials. Money is raised by selling t-shirts, buttons and aprons.
Savage’s Bakery & Deli
Since 1939, Savage’s Bakery & Deli has been an Alabama institution in downtown Homewood. Savage’s is well known for its pies in flavors of cherry, sweet potato, mincemeat, pumpkin, pecan and apple. Lunch is served with choices such as deli sandwiches made with fresh baked bread, toasted and hot Panini, and salad plates with homemade chicken salad or tomato aspic. Original Oyster House
Located in Gulf Shores, the Original Oyster House features favorites such as stuffed shrimp combo, shrimp au gratin, fried shrimp and fried green tomatoes bayou style. Eating indoors or outdoors gives diners a beautiful setting with a large back porch with adjoining brick patio, a room with a fireplace and a shaded area for large groups.
