American Idol Season 9 third place finisher Casey James may not have taken the Idol title, but he has still kept plenty busy since the show’s finale last month. James has been popping up here, there and everywhere, talking to news outlets and making appearances. Suffice it to say, American Idol Season 9’s “eye candy” is still in the spotlight- with a record deal hopefully in the works.
First up, James celebrated his 28th birthday on May 31st. That makes him officially too old to ever audition for American Idol again (not that he ever would!).
Two days after his birthday, James was in New York for a June 2nd performance to promote the latest M&M’s product- Pretzel M&M’s – with the other American Idol Top 10 contestants. Casey and the Idol Top 10 performed inside a giant M&M stage. Talk about product placement!
And James is still reeling from his super-secret performance with Poison front man Bret Michaels on the Season 9 finale, telling MTV News that even he was kept in the dark about who he would be dueting with. He said singing “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with Michaels- who appeared on the Idol finale for his first live performance after a nearly fatal brain hemorrhage- was “an honor” and something he’ll never forget.
The American Idol Live! 2010 summer concert tour kicks off on July 1st in Auburn Hills, Michigan, which means Casey will have a busy summer indeed. The Top 10 Idols will make 49 stops on their summer tour , so Casey won’t be spending much time back home in Cool, Texas until at least mid-September.
But after the show, and the endorsements, and the 49-city tour, is there a record deal in the works for Casey James? Many fans are hoping that Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment will sign him on (Crystal Bowersox was signed on promptly after coming in second place on Idol).
James told MTV that although nothing has been inked yet, fans can expect an album and there will be plenty of guitar featured on it. “It won’t be something where you don’t hear guitar, because that’s what I do. You’re definitely gonna hear guitar,” the blues rocker told MTV News.
If you need your Casey James fix, some of his best American Idol recordings are still available on iTunes, including “Jealous Guy” and “Don’t” – and you can check out his awesome performance of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with Bret Michaels right here.
