Hollister, Mo. — My timing is off on venturing into the new role of house-owner. The market is no longer a “buyer’s market”, due to the poor shape of America’s economy. By waiting too long, the $8000 tax credit that was being offered to those who purchased a home has expired.
I have kicked around the idea of purchasing a home for awhile now. I have recently rented a place to live in Branson, Missouri. This is the area that I am looking for my dream house. I would like to find a nice house close to one of the area lakes. My reasons for buying a house are all financially based. I would rather make a payment every month knowing that it is an investment, as compared to rent where it just money paid for short-term arrangements.
Being a single mom, safety is the most important aspect of which house I buy. A safe neighborhood is an absolute must. I want a house that has been recently built, a strong structure that was built right the first time. I don’t want to purchase something that will need major repairs as soon as my daughter and I move in.
I am probably one of the pickiest home shoppers Branson has seen in quite some time. I know what I want, and it is just a matter of finding the specific house. I require a four bedroom home. Even with just two of us, I want a room for an office, and a guest bedroom as well. A garage, of course, is a necessity.
While there are many homes that are available, through the Internet I was able to select the handful that I was interested in looking at and that fit into my price range. To get the house that I really want, my price range has been extended. For a lakefront, I am looking at around $200,000. This is a bit more that I had intended to budget, but if I am going to buy, I should get exactly what I have been wanting.
I began my search on this web page about two months ago. After narrowing down the search, I found the three top choices. I viewed my three choices last week.
The first house I looked at was on the lakefront and offered three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The house was older, having been built in 1998 and was listed at $219. It was located outside of Branson, which was a deterrent from the start. I went to look at it with an open mind, but just wasn’t impressed with it. The house was too small for me, having only a square foot measurement of 2409.While it did have the standard dishwasher, garbage disposal and washer/dryer hookups, it just didn’t scream “home” to me. I passed on this house.
The second one I went to view was a 3 bed, 3 bathroom house built in 2007 and located in Branson. This was seeming like my kind of place. With 2,876 square foot, this lakefront house was looking like my dream house. It was beautiful, a full, open kitchen, wood floors, rock fireplace, wraparound porch, and a three car garage. The garage was a bit more than I would require, but I was still keeping an open mind. This house came with membership to the clubhouse, a boat slip, and other amenities I wasn’t sure if I would use or not. While this house was beautiful, it was going to be placed in the “maybe” category. On to the next one!
The third, and final, house I looked at was absolutely perfect. It is a four bedroom, three bathroom, garaged home. It has approximately 1450 square feet of space. While this is a bit smaller than I had hoped for, this house offers plenty. A game room, a play room and a one car garage will provide plenty of space for both me and my daughter. A spacious kitchen, back deck and a large living room just completes the deal. This house is located in Branson. After searching through many homes on the Internet, and seeing my top three in person, this is the house I know I want. I have given up some luxuries, but by doing so, I found a house back in the original price range. This house is listed for $104,000. I will be going in next week to begin the paperwork.
So, over the course of two months, my housing ideas have changed many times. I don’t need a three car garage, a hot tub or a clubhouse. While sticking to the basics of what I really need, I have found the perfect house for my daughter and myself. It isn’t the fanciest, but with that comes a price tag that isn’t fancy. I have found nice, practical living quarters without an outrageous monthly mortgage.
