A Personal Account on Custom Diet Plans

by itchyfish

When it comes to weight loss, there are 2 main components and they are your diet and exercise. There are various exercise routines and workouts that you can do and majority of them are effective as long as you are consistent. When it comes to diet plans, there are some very famous ones such as the South Beach diet. There are also diet plans that are recommended by nutritionist especially if you have a medical condition. However, there are times when a custom diet plan can be more than enough to help you in your weight loss program.

A custom diet plan is a diet program that is made especially for you. You plan what you eat, what time and how much. There are quite a number of advantages if you plan your own meals. First and foremost, you’d most likely save money. A couple of years ago, when I had high blood pressure, I had to go to the hospital for treatment and even got admitted for a few days.

I was quite big at that time since I tipped the scale at around 240 pounds or so. My doctor said that I should modify my diet immediately so that I’ll lose weight and at the same time take care of my condition. On the day that I was discharged, the doctor requested for a nutritionist to help create a diet plan for me. When the nutritionist came in, she showed me her proposed diet plan and I was actually stunned at what I saw.

There were multiple meals in a day which included snacks. If I remember correctly, there were like 7 meals in a day. 3 small, but full, meals and the rest were snacks. But then, there was a bit of a problem. The diet plan is so diverse and complicated that I had to buy really expensive and hard to find foods. So I modified it so that the foods are easy to acquire.

If you make your own diet plan, the food you have in the list would most certainly be foods that you like. There are various sources of important nutrients such as protein. You can get them from meat. If you don’t like pork but eat fish then that’s fine. Carbohydrates can be acquired from different sources as well such as bread and/or rice. There are plenty of foods to choose from so pick what you like and just make sure that your daily needs are met.

Well, custom diet plans could work for you however, there is a tendency that you may miss on certain nutrients especially if you’re simply making it up and you have no professional or educational experience on nutrition. Sometimes, you won’t feel the negative effects until after you’ve engaged in your custom diet for a long time. This is actually happening to me at the moment.

The best thing to do is to get a second opinion. Create your plan and seek professional assistance from a doctor or a nutritionist to see if it will be effective for you based on your medical conditions, if any, and physical orientation. And of course, making your own diet plan will make you feel that somehow you are in full control of your program. Well, that’s just me.
