Mother’s day is May 9, this year, meaning it is coming up fast. As a mom whose oldest child is 15 years old, I have had my share of Mother’s Day gifts, good, bad, and indifferent. If you are a child or a husband, I strongly suggest you read and follow the suggestions on this list of Mother’s Day gifts.
Pamper her for Mother’s Day: Pampering your mom for Mother’s Day means having her sit on the sofa with her feet up and serving her all day. Bring her beverages, make sure she has her favorite book or magazine, and even give her a pedicure (or arrange for one). Pampering your mom on Mother’s day does not mean attempting a gourmet meal, and leaving a mess behind for her to clean up the next day. She’d appreciate a simple meal and takeout better if it means the kitchen stays clean.
Make special time just for her for Mother’s Day: Too many mothers have to share Mother’s day with their mother or their Mother-in-law, and even their daughters. While this can be lovely, spending Mother’s day honoring other people, can leave a mother feeling empty. To make her Mother’s day special, arrange time just for her, be it a breakfast or lunch date, or perhaps doing something with just her the day before.
Give her flowers for Mothers Day: Flowers are always appreciated for Mother’s day, whether they be carefully cut from her own garden, or ordered online. Another nice option is to purchase and plant a new flowering bush. Pick something you know she loves, and plant it in the garden early on Mother’s day morning. Just don’t interfere with or destroy her other plants.
Give her a magazine subscription for Mother’s Day: If you have forgotten to buy a gift for mothers day, and it is truly the last minute, run into the grocery store and grab a magazine you know she will like. Take a subscription card out of the magazine and mail it in (or subscribe to the magazine online). Present her the store-purchased magazine letting her know you have purchased a year’s subscription for Mother’s day. If she really loves, it then all you need to do next year is renew the subscription.
Pimp her blog or cellphone for Mother’s Day: If your mom has a blog then design a custom header for her. If she has a cell phone that displays a wallpaper on the screen, then design a special wallpaper for her. You can also pimp her twitter page if she tweets.
Give her the latest cell phone gadget for Mother’s Day: Speaking of electronics, don’t forget that moms like gadgets too. With so many cool items on the market, there is something for every domestic diva. Get her an iPhone, an iPad, a Kindle, or anything else she may hint at that will bring her into the 21st century.
Get a gift certificate to her favorite clothing store for Mother’s Day: A gift certificate to her favorite store will be greatly appreciated. It can be a clothing store or a shoe store. This way you won’t worry about buying something she will return.
Give her jewelry for Mother’s Day: If you are going to give your wife or mother jewelry for Mother’s Day, make sure it is high quality. Pearls, diamonds, or a beautiful brooch. Avoid cheap jewelry as you don’t want it to break or tarnish. If you can’t afford a good piece of jewelry, get something else from the list.
