Celebrities today have found a new way of finding fame, and no, it is not acting, it is being in front of the public eye 24/7. If you are talked about, you are making money. We have seen many celebrities use this public display as a means to keep in the minds of the public. It used to be that a celebrity would go on a popular TV show or have a ‘paid’ spread in a magazine, but there are now the paparazzi. The paparazzi have become enormous compared to what they used to be 10, 20, 30 years ago. They are like hunters stalking their prey at all hours of the night and day. However, some celebs seek them out or even go to the lengths to tell the paparazzi where they will be so they can get their pictures in next week’s magazines. We saw this recently with Heidi and Spencer Pratt. They would call the paparazzi and tell them where they would and when just so they could get more than their 15 minutes of ‘fame’. Then there is Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan; showing up to night clubs wearing no panties and making a point to spread legs to the cameras. It has become a disgusting display. However, there are many other celebs that do not want the unwanted attention.
As ‘fans’ we just want to more about these idols, these icons. They dazzle us at the theaters with their acting and enthrall us at the movie awards with their gowns. We sometimes seem to forget that they are people too. We have them so high up on a pedastool, we forget that once someone gets so high, the only thing left to do is tumble down. Unfortunately, it is people like Speidy, Britney, and Paris that make us forget that most celebs do not want to be followed 24/7.
Recently, it has become apparently obvious that some celebs just hate the way they are followed. Robert Pattinson, star of the Twilight Saga movies, has been harassed and stalked by paparazzi. I for one am a very big RPattz fan, but this has gone too far. Do we really want to see him when he is going to get his dry cleaning? Do we really care that much what he eats and when he eats it? I know I do not and there are many others out there that don’t as well. There has been an uprising amongst the “Twihards” on Facebook to stop the senseless harassment and stalking. I see the paparazzi stalking Angelina Jolie with her children, and that not only disgusts me, it frightens me because these are children, they have no concept of what I really going on. Yet, they have their pictures taken any time they go out in public.
Facebook and Twilight fans have created numerous pages to support the celebs in gaining their privacy back. I for one am trying to organize a boycott of all tabloid magazines and shows. While we are fans and do want to know more about the celebs, we also understand that they are people who deserve their privacy. The paparazzi have gotten out of control and it is time to say ENOUGH. Will you be the one to say it?
