If you’re looking for new Halloween movies for 2010, get ready to haunt the theater with 5 new movies this October. From horror movies to a few unique movies with supernatural elements, celebrate Halloween with the big screen this October:
Let Me In – One of the first Halloween movies hitting theaters this October will be one of the most critiqued. ‘Let Me In’ is a remake of the amazing Swedish vampire film ‘Let the Right One In’, a look at the life of a young vampire far different from those in the popular ‘Twilight’ movies. I’m kind of hoping the American remake at least attempts to do something slightly different and doesn’t exactly copy a movie that really has no business being remade, and I highly recommend seeing the original before this one hits theaters on October 1, 2010. It might be one of the new Halloween movies on this list getting a bad rap, but it will at least be interesting to compare it to the original, and mainstream moviegoers might appreciate seeing another movie by ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves and starring the talented Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl in ‘Kick-Ass’).
Saw VII – I’m definitely not a fan of the “torture porn” that is the Saw movie franchise, but I have a feeling this will be one of the most popular Halloween movies to hit theaters in October 2010. Jigsaw survivors will gather; more forms of torture will be explored; and buckets of blood will be shed. Oh yeah, it will also be in 3-D, so this one should do well at the box office. So if horror movies of this type are your thing, check this one out shortly before Halloween on October 22, 2010.
Paranormal Activity 2 – Competing with ‘Saw VII’ on October 22, 2010 is one of the Halloween movies for those of us that prefer to be terrorized with less gore and more imagination. There is the possibility that this could be a ‘Blair Witch 2’ style bomb, but hopefully director Oren Peli doesn’t let the bigger budget go to his head. Sorry there’s not more details about this sequel to the smash low-budget hit of last year, but these types of movies definitely need to keep their element of surprise intact.
Hereafter – This is one of the Halloween movies of 2010 I’m most looking forward to, even if it’s not exactly a horror movie. Rather, this fantastic-sounding flick is described as a “supernatural thriller” centered on three people who are touched by death in different ways. Sounds interesting, right? Add Clint Eastwood as director and a cast led by Matt Damon, and you’ve got a must-see movie that has Oscar written all over it. I can’t wait to see Clint Eastwood’s foray into this very different genre, and this is one of the new movies of October 2010 at the top of my list. If you want to avoid the crowds for the above two sequels, check out something more original on October 22, 2010.
My Soul to Take – And what better way to end October than with a Wes Craven movie? This is one of the of the Halloween movies of October 2010 that I’m not particularly excited about, since the plot is ever so slightly similar to that of so many horror movies to come before it: serial killer returns to his hometown to stalk children that share his birthday. However, Wes Craven could surprise us with something original (and maybe slightly humorous, a la ‘Scream’?). Whether or not this one wows, the horror master’s fans won’t miss this one on October 29, 2010.
So from horror movies full of gore to movies trying to offer a little bit more, there’s a little something to help everyone get in the Halloween spirit hitting theaters during October 2010.
