Sometimes we all experience some uncomfortable stomach pain. For our upset stomachs, many of us would rather use a home remedy than ingest some antacids or other medicine. Here are five tested remedies that will send you on your way to perfect stomach harmony.
Caraway or Fennel Seeds
These two kinds of seeds have proven to be excellent for helping with digestion and gas problems. You can make a tea out of them or chew them as people in the Middle East do. If you make a tea from it, simply place the seeds in a cup of boiling water and let sit for a few minutes. Then strain and enjoy. Be sure to drink the tea on an empty stomach for maximum results. Fennel tea is considered even more effective and follows the exact same instructions.
Cinnamon and Ginger
Strong spices like cinnamon and ginger have a way of calming the digestive track. Mix powdered cinnamon with ginger to warm water to make a tea concoction. This drink will not only be good for your stomach, but it will also taste great (think gingerbread cookies). Add 1/2 a teaspoon of powdered ginger with 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon. Ginger also helps with nausea.
Mint and Thyme
Herbs such as mint and thyme have always been known to cure simple stomach ailments. Mint particularly eases stomach cramps. Add 1 teaspoon of dried mint and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme to a cup of warm water and let sit covered for ten minutes. The resulting tea will help not only by being drunk, but also as an aromatic relaxant.
Baking Soda and Soft Drinks
If you’re tired of paying for antacids, then simply make your own using baking soda. You will notice that baking soda actually has instructions on the outside of the package. Add the amount suggested to water and drink to settle your stomach. Remember that baking soda is a salt, so do not take this remedy if you are trying to keep your salt levels down. Drinking soft drinks will also have the same effect if you’d rather drink something more delicious.
Apples, Bananas, and Fruit Juice
Fruits like apples contribute fiber which help your stomach. Bananas also have been shown to aid upset stomachs, though researchers are not sure why. The high levels of vitamin C and fiber in fruit juices also help an upset stomach as well as cold. A lot of people think that drinking milk is beneficial, but this is actually wrong. Milk only makes a stomach more upset because of its acidity.
These and other remedies will help you to feel better instantly without resorting to medicine.
