When I was of trick or treating age, I typically went with a group of friends. Every year we would go around different neighborhoods collecting candy and bubble gum. And every year we would always run into those couples who were perfectly coordinated. We would all chatter about, always determined to make coordinated costumes for the next year. Sadly, I no longer have an excuse to go trick or treating because I’m just too old to be mistaken for a highschool kid. I also don’t have children to bring trick or treating. What I do have, though, is compilation of homemade costumes for couples or just two friends going together. These homemade costumes are in no particular order.
Pair of Dice
First you are going to need to boxes big enough for you and your partner to fit in. To make each die simply fold the outer flaps inside the box. Cut out arm holes. Next, you are going to want to paint the box white. Now, using either paint, markers, construction paper, or felt, make circles on the sides of the boxes, making sure to replicate four sides of a six sided die. Simply repeat the process on the second box and you have yourself a pair of dice.
Salt and Pepper
This look is actually very easy to attain. Have one person dress in all white while the other dresses in all black. Use either felt, construction paper, or fabric paint to make a white P and a black S. Put the black S on the person in white and put the white P on the one clad in black. If you used either felt or construction paper, use safety pins or fabric glue to attach the letters.
Pimp And Girl
The girl’s costume is probably the easier of the two. Basically, you’ll just want her costume to be extremely risqué. Have her wear a very low-cut shirt and very short skirt. Consider knee-high socks to make it just a bit sexier. The man’s costume allows for a bit more creativity. You’ll definitely need a pimp hat, a cane, and some fake ‘bling’ jewelry. As for the outfit, you can either dress in a purple suit, or an animal print suit. If you don’t have anything like that, consider wearing a black or ‘loud’ colored dress shirt and black slacks along with some black shoes.
Prom King and Queen
Doesn’t everyone dream of being prom king or prom queen? For this costume set, have the girl wear a fancy dress that you would typically see at a formal dance. In fact, you can even use an old prom dress! If it is cold out, you may want to wear a nice shawl. For the man, all he really has to wear is a dress suit and dress shoes. To top the costume off, add a tiara and / or crowns.
Body Swap
For this look all you really need is regular clothing, although you are guaranteed to get a few stares and a few more chuckles. Have the man wear either a dress or a pretty blouse and skirt. A wig is completely optional. Also put lipstick and eyeshadow on him and consider adding blush. If you want to carry the costume to the finish line, also have him wear ballet flats, high heels, or girls flip-flops. As for the woman, have her wear a pair of mens slacks and a men’s shirt. You could also have her dress in a suit and tie, complete with mens dress shoes. If she has long hair, consider tying it back.
