Allergy season sucks, especially if you’re used to spending a lot of time outdoors. Nobody enjoys a bout of hay fever, but count your blessings – there are far worse allergies out there. Here’s a look at four terrible allergies that suck all the fun out of life, especially if you’re a guy.
1. Water Allergy – According to Dr. Rob Danoff at MSN, it’s possible to be allergic to water, which makes the earth a pretty unfortunate place to live. Even mild exposure to water can cause massive itchy breakouts, and what’s worse, doctors aren’t entirelysure what causes it. Since a good portion of the human body is water and you can’t really be allergic to yourself, there’s probably some added mineral in water that causes these kinds of breakouts, but since there’s no way to tell, sufferers must avoid all water or risk a lot of pain. Bathing is difficult, and swimming is out of the question.
The plus side is that you never have to worry about sharks, but that’s not really a huge comfort, is it?
2. Money Allergy – Most people who are allergic to money actually have an acute latex allergy. When they touch money, they react to bits of latex that rubbed off onto the currency. Any guy who loves a good dollar-bill bath will be ruined by full body breakouts and occasionally more serious symptoms (though swimming in gold coins is still okay). The good news is that money allergies can be controlled with medication. The bad news is that the medicine companies won’t take a check.
3. Alcohol Allergy -This is a real thing. And it really, really sucks, even compared to the rest of this list, since the water allergy people can relax with a cold beer every now and then. Alcohol allergies take a variety of forms, and may be a reaction to alcohol or one of the components of the beer or liquor that you’re swilling. Typical allergic reactions include swelling and hives, but in serious cases, allergens in alcoholic products can be life-threatening.
4. Kissing Allergies -Nobody’s reallyallergic to the act of kissing itself, but kissing can be a major concern for seriously allergic people, as allergens can be passed from lip to lip. Remember that one scene from “X-Men” when Rogue kissed the guy and almost sucked out his life force? Highly allergic guys are terrified over dying from a leftover bit of peanut butter rather than an accidental use of mutant superpower.
