The Xbox 360 is getting better by the years and while Microsoft is dazzling Xbox 360 fanboys with Halo: Reach, the Xbox 360S, and Xbox Kinect; there were still a few missed opportunities that would’ve made the Xbox 360 even more kickass. Following are three Xbox 360 projects killed during development that would have been insane.
The Xbox 360 Blu-Ray player
HD DVD loss the High Definition war to the now famous Blu-Ray DVD platform, but – unfortunately for Xbox 360 fans – Microsoft chose to take sides with the creators of HD DVD. No biggie, right? Yes, yes, it’s a huge “biggie” according to Microsoft, who’ll never release a Blu-Ray DVD player for Xbox 360 consoles. Even worse, is the fact there there are Xbox 360 HD DVD peripheral devices – $179.99 retail – that were sold during this whole “DVD battle” thing – which are now just $180 paper weights. With the new Xbox 360 changes going into effect, the Xbox 360 is set to be the best gaming console, but the loss of Blu-Ray will always hang over the heads of Xbox 360 fanboys.
Xbox 360 vs. PC
Have you ever wanted to play your favorite Xbox 360 games on your computer… against people on Xbox 360s and computers alike? That sounds like a totally kickass idea and was actually in the works until Microsoft killed it, according to Rahul Sood. This piece of technology that the internet is calling Xbox 360 vs. PC would have been the first step in uniting both the PC and console gaming platforms and might have been a more significant leap into gaming future than the Xbox 360 Kinect. Its alleged that the folks over at Microsoft felt that the Xbox 360s controls weren’t accurate enough to compete with the PC platform.
Halo 4? You might be wondering if I’m referring to Halo: Reach, but I’m far from confused, I’m definitely talking about Halo 4. The ending of Halo 3 left an opening for Halo 4 and Bungie, the creators of Halo, strongly considered following up with a 4th Halo installment. Unfortunately, Master Chief will have to remain in cryonic sleep for eternity because Bungie felt that it’d be more interesting to go with a prequel to the Halo story instead of opening up new doors and begging more questions.
