I first began to check out golf courses in Houston, Texas after I relocated here and my firm got their you-know-whats kicked in the annual golf tournament. I foolishly thought my New England golf skills would suffice, but I didn’t factor in the heat. I needed to find a good golf course to practice my swing at and acclimate myself to the humidity of Houston, and so my search began. As with everything else in Texas, there are more golf courses in the Houston area than you can count, some good, some bad, and some in between. Through my experience, this article will provide you with a guide to the golf courses I consider to be among the three best in Houston, Texas.
Clear Creek Golf Club. 3902 Fellows Road, Houston, Texas. Clear Creek is a beautiful golf course located in South Houston. Their fees are reasonable and they offer plenty of great packages that will suit your needs, whether you are an avid golfer, a casual golfer or even just a beginner. You can sign up for private classes if you need them, and did I mention the food there is fantastic? (That’s important to me as both a golfer and a person who likes to eat.) They hold plenty of golf tournaments and events, so if that is something you are interested in you should definitely put Clear Creek on your short list. HermannPark Golf Course. 2155 North MacGregor, Houston, Texas. Hermann Park Golf Course is a great place to golf if you live where we Houstonians call “inside the loop.” (The loop is interstate 610, and people in Houston describe every destination as either “inside” or “outside” the loop. It took me a while to figure this out.) This award winning golf course (3 and ½ stars from Golf Digest) is near the Medical Center, Downtown, and The Museum District, so no matter where you live (or work) it’s an easy drive. I find their fees to be reasonable, and they have an awesome pro shop. (Also, lunch there is great.) Click here for more information.
Northgate Country Club. 17110 Northgate Forest, Houston, Texas. Out of the multitude of private golf courses that Houston’s communities offer, I chose Northgate for many reasons. Northgate offers all the amenities of a great private country club – golf, tennis, social events, etc. But it also has a certain element that makes everyone feel welcome. They offer different levels of membership, depending on how frequently you plan to golf (or play tennis, or socialize.) They have three gorgeous courses available to you, as well as all the other features you would expect at a private golf course (pro shop, driving range, great food). Golf Northgate as a guest the next time you are in Houston and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Click here for more information.
