Harry Potter, and Twilight; These are two books that have been made into movies and has had overwhelming success overall. There has been so many sequels made and the actor’s careers are taking off. What other books should be made into movies? What would you like to see in theaters? Here we have the City of Ashes, The Host, and The Hunger Games!
3) City of Ashes
Author: Cassandra Clare
Published: March 25th 2009 Margaret K.Mcelderry
To somewhat summarize the plot. The author brings readers into the world of a young woman named Clary Fray. She lives in New York and everything seems like normal. Things turn bad when she her mother is incapacitated and readers learn that Clary is actually a Shadowhunter. Shadowhunters are basically demon hunters that take down creatures like vampires and werewolves. There is a lot of comedy at times and there are also moments that really take it to the heart. The huge conflict that occurs is that there is another Shadowhunter who is going around doing his own thing. The most scariest thing for this rogue hunter for Clary is that he is her father. Problems ensue and a wild and crazy plot takes its course. Now the reason I feel as though this book should be made into a movie is because of the general media wants as of right now. We see movies with main characters such as wizards, vampires, and werewolves. Wouldn’t it be a nice change to see someone who actually takes those kinds of people out? It would spawn a whole new clique of fans galore. The series is still pretty new coming out in 2008 but there are many sequels on the way. Very popular, City of Ashes has everything to make it on the big screen. There is a woman main character who can be played by various teen actors. She also has many friends who can be played also by upcoming teen actors right now. Unfortunately, no one comes to mind when thinking about who should play them but I do have a suggestion of who should direct. The director of Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone, Chris Columbus, did an awesome job with capturing the images and the ideas of the books. I remember reading that book and being really excited to finally see it come to life on the screen. I was very pleased. Having Columbus work on another great book like City of Ashes, I believe this would become a huge success!
2) The Host
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Published: May 6th 2008
The author of the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer is very popular for throwing out her stories about young women who face troubles and deal with vampires. She is also the author of this book, The Host, which follows the story of a young woman, yes another, named Melanie. The setting of the story is pretty outrageous on its own. In this world, the earth has been taken over aliens and the human race is almost completely taken over. They are a species that take over human minds and get to control their bodies. Melanie is a special case where she is so strong willed that the alien host trying to take her body is being resisted. The host is then plagued by her body being forced to see visions of her desires and wants. One of these visions is the scenes of her love. A huge conflict and farfetched idea already, the host is led on to find a man she knows nothing of. Do I really have to say why this book needs to be made into a movie? Alright, first of all, the author is Stephenie Meyer. That name alone would attract so much attention and give the movie the acknowledgment that it deserves coming from an awesome book. And second, the story is so crazy. Seeing a book that is intended to be marketed to young fans would be introduced to a whole new genre. What I’m saying is that fans of Stephenis Meyer books are usually not too interested in science fictional books such as The Host and having her, being the author, would surely attract the interest of younger readers and get them thinking about new types of books to read. The actors should, again, be played by upcoming teen actors and I have no say to who the director should be. The story alone would catch my attention and I’d love to see this book at least turn into a trailer
1) The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Published: October 1st 2008
The Hunger Games is a book I picked up recently and couldn’t stop reading. It takes place in the future, the setting is in North America. Times have drastically changed and media isn’t what it used to be. The story follows 16 year old Katniss as she is is pitted against friends and foes in a televised reality show type of event that is basically a survival competition. The book has tons of action and comedy. There is romance and drama. The main character is put in situations where she must decide what are the right choices and can she do what she really feels while surviving? The reason why I think The Hunger Games should be made into a movie is that it’d be a nice change in the movie scene. As I stated before there are movies out there like Twilight and Harry Potter that are pretty fantasy based about teens who overcome overwhelming problems. The Hunger Games would attract a more mature audience that would get people thinking about the nature of humans. There are arguments out there that involve this book and the future of North America. To get into it a little, today, we have so many reality television shows like cook offs, and “civilized” living situations that bring young people together and see if they can live in harmony. But on the other hand, there are much more intense reality shows like survivor and the amazing race where sometimes people are put in life threatening situations and crazy competitions where people would do anything to win. What the argument is with North America is that some people, like me, think that reality shows are getting out of control. There are many out there then we can count and we have no idea how far shows will be taken in the future. Will there one day be a reality show like The Hunger Games where children are forced to survive and kill others to live? The Hunger Games, in my opinion, is made into a movie would change people in thinking more about their lives. Since this movie is pretty far out there in its concept I have no idea where to begin to suggest who should play the actors and actresses. This is one movie where I would love to see be made into a movie and just see it when it’s done without knowing who directed or who’s playing it in. I’d like a total surprise. But if they manage to keep true to the story and its atmosphere then I know I’ll love it no matter what.
