When it comes to books being turned into movies, i have to say, it’s not right. i love seeing works of literature turned into an on screen visual performance, but some books this shouldn’t be done to. sometimes making this transformation completely ruins the book. Look at the Lord of the Rings series, the movies are excellent yes, but they do not even compare to the books, so many things were done wrong, much needed information was left out and certain characters were torn to pieces so to speak. I think if the three movies that i put were actually made into movies i would cry when i saw them due to how much would be wrong, but i would love it at the same time.
The Sweep Series by Cate Teirnan
So this isn’t just one book, it’s actually about 15 books, 200 pages each. It’s about a girl, Morgan, who meets a new boy at her school, Cal, and he teaches her and a few other classmates about the workings of Wicca and Magick (and yes i did spell that right). After a few months of learning basics, Morgan learns that she is in fact a Blood Witch, meaning her parents were apart of the 7 original clans and that she, Morgan, had been adopted when she was an infant, the rest of the series goes on telling about her journey through Wicca and her learning of her past and future. I highly recommend this book to anyone that’s interested or practicing Wicca, its very informative and highly entertaining.
If i were in charge of the casting and direction of this movie, i would definitely hire Chris Columbus as the director, i love his films and he has amazing vision not to mention he try to stay as close to the books as possible and with this series it has to be that way. Cast wise, its a little tougher to determine but i would have to say Lindsey Shaw as the part of Morgan, basing on looks alone. She’s a great actress and i think would be perfect for the part. As for Cal, who is, in Morgan’s mind, like God come to Earth, i think Andrew James Allen fits the bill. And since Hunter becomes a major character later on in the series I’m including him, and the only person i can think that could pull him off is Tom Felton. Also on my list is Hugh Laurie, only because i think his acting skills and presence would add so much to the film.
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
This is an Amazing author. She already has had one of her books turned into a movie and has more books coming out with no sign of stopping anytime soon. This book in particular is on of her best sellers and one of my personal favorites to read. The story is of Annabelle Green, a mall model in her town, high school junior and previously one of the most popular girls in her class, until a rumor starts after her ex-best friend, Sophie, finds her boyfriend in a bedroom with Annabelle upstairs at a party. Annabelle is then isolated from the rest of the world it seems and becomes friends with school loner and music junkie, Owen Armstrong. While dealing with her Whitney’s, Annabelle’s sister, eating disorder, and trying to keep herself sane through music, Annabelle finds discovers what important in life and how to tell people what she’s feeling.
Seeing as Sarah Dessen’s first book turned movie was a big hit, i would say that keeping the same director is a must. Clare Kilner is an amazing director, even though she hasn’t done many films, she did a wonderful job with How to Deal. When it comes to casting for this, for Annabelle, Alyson Michalka is definitely a perfect fit, also Shane West as Owen. And then there’s Owen’s best friend Rollie who is a crazy, small boy that works with Owen on his Radio show and i can think of no other person to play him other than Rupert Grint, he just has that adorable awkwardness that every good movie needs.
And last but not least….
What Happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci
Ok so this is my all time favorite book. It is a book that I think everyone needs to read at least once in their life. And if this book were to be turned into a movie, it would have to be done TO THE T! If this movie was actually going to be made and they completely murder the story or mood of it, i would boycott, i swear to God. Sixteen year old, cheerleader Claire, is a recovering cancer patient, now in remission but scared of relapse, she hides her fears and real self from her best friend Macy, and boyfriend Scott, so when Lani Garver moves to town, she is immediately attracted to the boy, or is it girl? She chooses to become friends with him instead of bashing and isolating him like the rest of her friends. Within just a few days, battles are faced, secrets are revealed and Clair learns that there is a possibility that angels may walk the Earth.
Since I have such high respect and expectations for this one in particular I want the best director i can think think of actually directing it. Peter Jackson it is. Director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and, very recently, The Lovely Bones (which may i say was done beautifully). His visions are amazing and he makes them beautiful on screen. The Part of Claire, in my mind, can only be potrayed by one person and that’s Dakota Fanning, she has the spunk, the awkwardness, and the style that Claire puts off. And then there’s Lani, the one that at first glance, one cant tell if he’s a boy or girl and I feel that Cameron Bright would pull this off just right, no doubt about it.
These summaries and casting choices are all on my personal opinions so if someone doesn’t like it or doesn’t believe that i made good choices then I’m sorry. Like i have said, I highly recommend all of these books.
Thanks for Reading!
