The 2010 Unemployment Extension Bill has to eventually pass through the Senate. Each day that is does not, more and more American’s are taking notice of what is going on with the stalling of passing this bill. I am not waiting for the unemployment extension to pass to receive benefits, but I do know a few people who are. They have worked hard all their lives and have even been turned down for work in a fast food place because there are no jobs.
As each day goes by people like me are taking more notice to what the Senate is putting the unemployed public through. This is not the big banks or car companies. This is my neighbor Sally and friend James and his wife counting on this money to feed their kids. Checking the news daily to see if the extension has been passed has become a daily occurrence for me. I am listening to what Senator’s are saying about this bill and I know who is for it and who is against it. Again, the only stake I have in this bill passing is that it could be me tomorrow out of a job and I too may count on the “swift action” of the Senate for help in passing an unemployment extension. When it is happening to one group of people, it is really happening to all of us.
There are so many more employed people taking note of what the Senate is putting the unemployed through right now by not passing this bill in a timely fashion. There are more and more of us every day hearing the plight of our friends and families out of work waiting for this bill to be passed.
I will remember who the Senators are that put up the obstacles so the bill just sits while people are suffering. The group of people who have become angered about the bill taking so long are no longer just the unemployed, it is all Americans, working or not. Is it too late for the Senate to fix this before it goes too far and the scars carry over to the next election? I am not sure. I do know that the longer they wait, the people that once voted for them or were about to vote for them will not.
The Senate has to pass this bill soon before anymore collateral damage by the way of losing votes comes from this. The President has voiced his opinion and he wishes the two parties would come together and help the unemployed, according to the website Politics and World News.Did he say this before or after his last golf game? Maybe it was after the big star studded party he gave last week? I am not sure when he said it , but he did. I am glad that he acknowledges this bill needs to pass, but maybe he could get a little more aggressive, like he did when General McChrystal insulted him.
If for no other reason, the Senate is going to need to move fast before their potential voters fall away for good. They might be able to save their votes if they do something soon, but if they wait much longer they might as well retire from politics because they will not have a chance come election day. WE WILL NOT FORGET!
It is the unemployed that are feeling the harsh effect from this unemployment extension delay, but it is people like me taking note that it could be me tomorrow and that are starting to get angry too. It will be people like me who see friends and family struggling while waiting for this bill to pass who will change their vote come election day. It will be people like me who join with the ranks of the unemployed and vote the Senators who caused this delay out of office.
