Is 2010 Unemployment Extension news coming soon? Last night, Democrat Max Baucus told reporters that the Senate is close on a deal that would provide the 2010 Unemployment Extension that many are hoping for.
How many people are hoping for the 2010 Unemployment Extension? At least 1.2 million, as reported, will be without benefits after reaching a particular Tier in the month of June. Benefits stopped for many this month as the Senate slowly weighed the issue before not pushing it through.
The Senate did, however, push through a medicare bill that was sent to the House. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called the bill “inadequate” since it didn’t a broader jobs bill. That jobs bill includes the 2010 Unemployment Extension. 1.2 million people are collectively holding their breath as we wait for more 2010 Unemployment Extension news. Will it happen soon? The only thing we do know is that Max Baucus thought last night that the Senate was close to having the 60 votes required to pass such an item. How did the Senate get there? I think a good part of what happened is due to Nancy Pelosi rejecting the revised bill that did not tackle issues on unemployment and jobs. Now if the Senate wants that bill passed they will have to take a closer look at the jobs bill and unemployment issues. Does that mean the 2010 Unemployment Extension will be passed in both the Senate and the House? There are still some obstacles to overcome-but the extension could happen in a matter of days if everyone is satisfied.
Let’s hope the end of the week brings good news in reference to the 2010 Unemployment Extension.
I have been writing about this issue for several weeks and each week the amount of page views I am receiving continues to grow. Last night, I received over 200 comments and well over 30,000 page views on stories I have written for AC. I also am writing for my blog and going more in depth on some of these issues here. The number of page views only represents to me the people who are heart broken that the Senate is moving forward at a snails pace. There are many people suffering who have gone without checks for 3 weeks now. There are also many Tier 5 or 99’ers who are living without income. Those Tier 5 or 99’ers will not be addressed with this coming bill–if the 2010 Unemployment Extension ever does happen.
I want to take a second to thank all the readers who have took the time to comment on the stories I have written. It means a lot to me that you would express your anger, sadness and sometimes empathy for others. It must be incredibly hard for many of you to be in this horrible situation.
We are all in this fight together–and until the 2010 Unemployment Extension happens-I will continue to beat it to a pulp on Associated Content and my blog. I also want to point out the New York Times for writing such an incredible editorial on the 2010 Unemployment Extension on June 14, 2010. Those words were not unheard-especially by many of our jobless Americans who have been suffering while the Senate waits to make a decision on this issue.
