2010 Unemployment Extension Bill was voted down in the Senate yet again today, according to CNN Money. This is a serious situation that calls for the President to aggressively pursue a way to bring the Senate to their senses.
It amazes me that we can purchase a car company when they fall on tough times, but the average hard working American who cannot find a job is at the bottom of the list for help. We can make sure any American can buy a new car with “Cash for Clunkers”, but we cannot insure the family inflicted with the unemployment epidemic where their next meal will come from.
Right now we live in a country where we can see video’s of the latest celebrities to be entertained at the White House, but we do not see the President playing host for the American’s out of work. His involvement in this unemployment crisis is over due. I do not know what it costs to put on galas after galas for the rich and famous, but I assure you that no worries about “government spending” came into play with these parties. Yet dinner for a mother of a teenager did not happen tonight because there was only enough to feed her son. This is a woman who worked all her life and through no fault of her own, is out of work.
The weekend is upon us and while the Senators go home and see their families, start up their grills, take their kids to a movie or maybe for a trip to the mall, the unemployed Americans who were counting on you will be lucky to keep their lights on. How can this happen?
There is no telling what will happen from here on with the unemployment extension bill. No one knows if it will even have a chance to come up for a vote again. Earlier today it looked as if it might have a chance, then the vote of “No” rang loud and clear.
I am not invested in seeing the unemployment extension bill pass for me, I am one of the lucky ones not depending on this bill. I am however very mindful that I could be among the unemployed waiting for our Senate to do their job and help the people out of work any day now. I am just a paycheck away from joining the people in the unemployment crisis.
The unemployment extension bill was not passed today, leaving the unemployed with no where to turn. The government cannot just ignore this anymore. They need to find a way to get the unemployment extension bill passed. The president needs to get involved and help find a way to make this happen.
I hope the Senators remember voting on this unemployment extension bill again today. I hope the President remembers this too. The fact that the bill was voted down once again will be heard again on the day we cast our votes. The votes will let you know that the American public, unemployed or not, has taken notice in this injustice and you will never get a chance to do it to us again. We will be the ones casting the votes for ‘”no” on election day.
