The 2010 NBA Draft lottery odds were revealed, and the schedule is set for the 2010 NBA Draft. The 2010 NBA Draft lottery odds were determined first by which teams had the worst records during the 2009-2010 NBA season, and then through tie-breakers determined by the league. The odds are what is then used as a percentage of ping pong balls that are placed into the lottery selection process. For example, if a team has a 25% change of winning the NBA lottery as their odds, then they will get 25 of every 100 ping pong balls used in the draft lottery. The worse a team was during the regular season, the more ping pong balls that they get when the lottery is conducted. We have listed the full 2010 NBA Draft lottery odds and chances on page two.
There are 1000 chances (ping pong balls) in the draft, and they are all split between the 14 NBA teams that don’t make it into the NBA Playoffs. The lottery is then run by the NBA, with the first pick getting decided by the first ping pong ball taken out of the machine. The second and third picks are done in the same fashion to decide the top three teams in the draft. Once those top three teams are determined, the rest of the first round is filled out by placement of the teams back in to the original order. This is done so that the worst team in the league, the New Jersey Nets this season at 12-70, will at worst get the fourth pick in the first round. Their odds are good that they will be at least in the top three, and they are hoping for even better than that.
Because it works like any other lottery, there is still a chance that a team like the Utah Jazz (picked for the New York Knicks) could end up with the No. 1 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. What would Utah do if that took place? The best prospect coming out of college is John Wall according to most experts, and Utah already has one of the best point guards in the NBA with Deron Williams. Would that lead to a trade of the No. 1 overall pick? It’s a sure bet that they wouldn’t mind being placed in that situation. There are quite a few teams that need to have a great draft choice come out of the 2010 NBA Draft, and they will all be hoping to get a ping pong ball with their name taken quickly.
The 2010 NBA Draft lottery will be at the end of May, with the 2010 NBA Draft taking place on June 24, 2010 in New York City. A lot can change between the end of the playoffs and the 2010 NBA Draft, and with a host of free agents hitting the market, this could be one of the most interesting offseasons that we have seen from the NBA in quite some time.
