If you will be spending the Fourth of July holiday in Claremont, California this year, you are in for a great Independence Day Celebration. The city of Claremont goes all out to celebrate our country’s birthday with many activities that are enjoyed by young and old alike. The activities planned include a Pancake Breakfast, Freedom 1K and 5K Walk/Run, Family Festival, Fourth of July Parade and last but not least a firework show. This years festivities will take place on Sunday July 4, 2010
2010 Fourth of July Activities in Claremont, California
Get your Fourth of July off to a great start with a Pancake breakfast provided by the Claremont Kiwanis Club. Proceeds from the breakfast benefit several non profit organizations and community events in the city of Claremont.. The breakfast is held from 7:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. and is located in Memorial Park just north of the band shell. Meal tickets can be purchased on the day of the event and the cost is $4.00.
Freedom 1K and 5K Run/Walk
The 18Th annual Claremont Village Freedom 5000 begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 1K Fun Walk followed by a 5K Walk /Run at 8:00 a.m. The run begins in Memorial Park 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd, and winds through the scenic streets of Claremont and finishes on College Avenue which is a bit of an uphill challenge. For more information on how to register see the cities website. All participants who pre-register will receive a commemorative t-shirt. Those who register on the day of the event will receive a t-shirt if they are still available.
Join VFW and American Legion members as they help the Claremont Independence Day Committee kick off the start of the Fourth of July festivities with the ceremonial raising of the American flag at 10:00 a.m. in Memorial Park. Excerpts from the Declaration of Independence will be read and patriotic musical selections played.This event is a great way to show your national pride and remember why we celebrate Independence Day.
In celebration of our First Amendment right to free speech community residents are invited to speak their mind on a variety of personal, local and global subjects at the Willard Hunter Speakers’ Corner from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday July 4Th. Speakers of any age may participate but time slots must be prearranged by contacting Karen Rosenthal at [email protected] . Speakers Corner is located in Memorial Park.
On July 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Memorial Park in Claremont is turned into a giant free family fun festival in celebration of the Fourth of July. The festival features over 70 non profit groups that provide. information booths, free children’s games, and a variety of food and other items for sale. In addition bands and other forms of entertainment and demonstrations perform throughout the park all day long.
Fourth of July Parade
Claremont’s annual Fourth of July parade is the highlight of the day for many. With nearly 100 entries that include, bands, floats, local business and non profit organizations and novelty groups this is one parade you won’t want to miss. The parade begins at 4:00 p.m. but arrive early to stake out your spot along the parade route. The parade begins on the corner of Indian Hill and 10Th Street then goes south on Indian Hill to Harrison, and west on Harrison toward Mountain Avenue. The parade ends at Larkin Park.
Fourth of July Fireworks
Claremont’s Fourth of July Fireworks show is the perfect end to a patriotic day. Over the year its become one of the biggest and best firework shows in all of Los Angeles County and new elements are constantly being added to keep the show fresh. Claremont’s firework show is twenty minutes in length, fully synchronized to music and electronically fired The rock band LCR will entertain the audience prior to the show. The show is located on the Strenhle Track at Pomona College, 333 North College Way, Claremont. Tickets are $8.00 pre-sale and $10.00 at the gate.The gates open at 6:30 p.m. and the fireworks show begins at 9:00 p.m. Food and novelties will be available for purchase during the event.
