This is my ranking of fantasy football running backs for the 2010 NFL season. I am a long time fantasy football player and sports writer so I have combined the two. This is a good 2010 fantasy football draft cheat sheet for running backs. For a similar article on the best 2010 fantasy football quarterbacks then click this link. To keep from cluttering this up with lots of links, any stats mentioned come from NFL.com.
1 Chris Johnson- Tennessee Titans
As you can see here Chris Johnson is the best running back in the NFL. He is also the best fantasy football running back heading into 2010. IF he gets a new contract or comes back and plays under his old deal. Chris Johnson is very unhappy right now and the Titans hold all the cards and I expect this to get ugly.
2 Ray Rice- Baltimore Ravens
Ray Rice is a dual rushing and receiving threat on the team I am picking to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Baltimore upgraded their wide receivers with Anquan Boldin and Donte Stallworth which will help Rice. Ray Rice hasn’t been a huge touchdown guy but I feel he will be this season.
3 Adrian Peterson-Minnesota Vikings
Favre will be back to take pressure off of Adrian Peterson and AP may feel he has something to prove. With most experts saying Adrian Peterson fumbles too much the talented Viking running back may put in the time learning to hold onto the football. Either way with Adrian Peterson in a weak defensive division he is a must for your fantasy football team.
4 Ryan Grant- Green Bay Packers
Grant is due for a huge season with the continued development of Rogers as quarterback. Grant rushed for over 1,200 yards and ran for 11 touchdowns in 2009 and should improve on those numbers in 2010. Grant makes my top five fantasy football running backs list for 2010.
5 Maurice Jones-Drew- Jacksonville Jaguars
Maurice Jones-Drew quietly ran for almost 1,400 yards last year and rushed for 15 touchdowns on a bad team. Unfortunately for Maurice the team isn’t much better but he should still be an asset to the running backs on your fantasy football team.
6 DeAngelo Williams- Carolina Panthers
DeAngelo has the problem of sharing the backfield with Jonathan Stewart but I feel he will have a great season in 2010. With the Panthers having a young quarterback this season both guys will gets lots of touches in the running game, and Stewart always gets hurt.
7 Stephen Jackson- St. Louis Rams
Jackson would be the best running back in football if he was on a better team, but he isn’t. Jackson has lots of miles on him and I expect him to wind down a bit but he will be a solid fantasy football running back.
8 Frank Gore- San Francisco 49ers
Gore is a nice person to have on your 2010 fantasy football cheat sheet. He is like Jackson in that he took a lot of abuse on bad teams. Unlike Jackson Gore is now on a good team. Gore should be good for 1,200 yards and 12-14 scores on the ground.
9 Michael Turner- Atlanta Falcons
Turner came in fat last season for the Falcons and didn’t have a great season. He has been working out more and feels he has something to prove. I think he has one more monster season in him and he could be the running back steal of the fantasy football draft.
10 Thomas Jones- Kansas City Chiefs
Jones has put up great numbers with the Jets and Bears but he is old and now he is a Chief. Thomas Jones will share time with Charles in the Chiefs backfield and won’t be near his previous numbers.
