2010 American League All Star Team Announced, All Star Starters and Reserves Revealed

by itchyfish

Both the starters and reserves of the 2010 American League All Star team were revealed on Sunday, showing that a few of the superstar first basemen in the American League were left off the team in the process. The fans ended up choosing very well when they picked their 2010 American League All Stars, arguably making the smartest voting decisions they have had in quite some time. It could even be argued that the fans got the voting 100% correct, leaving open the chance that the starting first baseman (Justin Mornueau) could be swapped out for reserve Miguel Cabrera, but this was close enough for us.

The 2010 American League All Star Staters

C — Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins
1B — Justin Morneau, Minnesota Twins
2B — Robinson Cano, New York Yankees
3B — Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays
SS — Derek Jeter, New York Yankees
OF — Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners
OF — Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers
OF — Carl Crawford, Tampa Bay Rays
DH — Vladimir Guerrero, Texas Rangers

For Derek Jeter, this is his 11th All Star appearance, and for Ichiro Suzuki, this is his 10th All Star appearance in just 10 MLB years. The only American League All Star starter that isn’t on the team for at least the third time is second baseman Robinson Cano, who makes his first All Star appearance in grand fashion. In addition to the two Yankees starters, four more were selected among the 2010 American League All Star reserves, including Alex Rodriguez, Phil Hughes, Mariano Rivera, and CC Sabathia. Six members of the Boston Red Sox also made the reserves, including Davd Ortiz, Adrian Beltre, Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez, Jon Lester, and Clay Buchholz. There is however, no Jonathan Papelbon or Mark Teixeira this year.

There are definitely a couple of players missing from the reserves that deserved to be on the All-Star team, including Kevin Youkilis of the Boston Red Sox and Michael Young of the Texas Rangers. Maybe at some point they can be placed on the team if someone else gets hurt. It’s also quite noticeable that the host Anaheim Angels were only given one All Star with reserve outfielder Torii Hunter making the team.

The 2010 All Star Game will be played on July 13th, 2010 at Anaheim, and the winning league will once again get home field advantage in the World Series.
