Senior villages are apartment-like living arrangements for seniors who like the idea of living with others and having support available but who still want to maintain their independence. Most senior villages allow seniors of varying degrees of independence, and if a very independent resident moves yet their health declines and they’re not able to care for themselves as they had previously, the amount of assistance provided by the staff can easily be increased. If you’re looking for a senior village for yourself or for a loved one, the following two villages are superb choices, provided you’re looking for something in the Detroit, Michigan area.
American House Senior Living Communities
Founded in 1979, American House is a excellent retirement community in the state of Michigan for various reasons. American House has various locations which are conveniently located throughout the Detroit and Flint suburbs, with communities in Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne and Genesse counties. I know first hand how wonderful American House is because I had the pleasure of working at their Hazel Park (Oakland County) location as a night companion. A night companion works in the evening and overnight and is available to seniors who have a non life-threatening emergency situation. The senior can press a special button and the night companion will immediately go to their apartment to provide whatever assistance is needed.
The apartments at American House are very attractive and quite roomy. And for the seniors that need it, some come wheelchair assessable, while others contain assistive devices such as rails in the bathtub. Seniors can choose to have a roommate and share the rent and other costs by living in a 2 bedroom, some as large as 920 sq feet, or they can live alone or with their spouse in a one bedroom.
Although seniors have the option of preparing their own meals in the privacy of their apartments, some choose to include the cost of meals in their rent and have all 3 meals provided. These meals can be eaten in the fancy dining room or taken back to their apartment. The menus are very tempting, and the food at the Hazel Park American House is awesome. I must admit that I have had the pleasure of eating with the residents on occasion, and I couldn’t believe how tasty the meals were.
I have also attended certain activities with the residents at American House, and they go quite a few places. Seniors living there never have to worry about transportation, as there is a comfortable air conditioned bus that transports them to and from all activities, and they go place like the casinos, plays, movies, shopping, zoo and much more.
Seniors don’t have to stress too much about the cost of living at American House, because there are many payment options. There is the possibility of Section 8 for low income seniors, a special line of credit and much more that can be discussed with American House staff. Check out American House’s website for more information and to find the location that interests you. www.americanhouse.com.
