What does the Bible say about our temper? The Bible warns us not to be hot-tempered. As believers we must do our best to be humble and patient. When we’re involved in a conflict situation it is essential that we take the time to calm down and control our anger. You may have to step back and return to the situation later. As believers we are called to forgive and communicate the truth in love. The following Bible verses provide a biblical concept of our temper. A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.
A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly.
The Danites answered, “Don’t argue with us, or some hot-tempered men will attack you, and you and your family will lose your lives.”
Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered,
A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.
1 Timothy 3:2
Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.
Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless-not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.
1 Samuel 20:7
If he says, ‘Very well,’ then your servant is safe. But if he loses his temper, you can be sure that he is determined to harm me.
Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.
Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.
