American Idol has produced some fine talents in 9 Seasons . But, for every talented person there are about 20 bad ones. Here is a list of some of the worst American Idol performances ever.
1. Kellie Pickler, Bohemian Rhapsody
When you choose to cover a queen song, you need to be aware of two things: 1) Chances are your voice is nowhere near as good as Freddie Mercury and People are going to hate, and 2) If you manage to cut one of the most epic rock songs in history to measly 90 seconds, it better be good. Kellie Pickler ignored both of these as she performed Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpN9qWN48Ig
2. Leah Labelle- Let’s Stay Together
Labelle killed what many people, including myself, consider a classic song. Labelle’s performance reminded me of a lounge singer at a country club; bland, and uninteresting. The horrible arrangement from the bad just added to the painful performance. She would have sounded better with an arrangement that was closer to the original.
3. Sanjaya Malakar, Bath Water
Sanjaya should not have made it past Holly Wood let alone to the final rounds. His sad rendition of No doubts Bathwater made this fact painfully clear. Oh, and the pony hawk didn’t help much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ps-Gfk68YU
4. Sylvia Chibilti ,’Didn’t We Almost Have It All
Chibitli complete disregard for any sort of diction on Didn’t We Almost Have It All made it painful to listen to. Some may chalk up her bad diction to her time overseas, but I’ve known people with lisps who are perfectly articulate when they sing. When you have an issue like that you try to fix it. Not, sing louder and hope no one notices it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ5tpyESwCA5. John Park, GravityWith the glut of sensitive dudes with guitars on Season 9 of American Idol, John Park made a huge mistake: singing a sensitive guitar guy song without a guitar. Also, I would have liked to hear him end one verse of the song without 11 unnecessary runs. Park has a very distinct sound, and this song did not do it justice. Bad choice.
6. Ace Young, Drops of Jupiter
Does he remind anyone else of Constantine Mouralis? The vocals on this song were decent, but his cheesy stage performance is what made this list. From showing his scar to the audience, and his awkward rocking from side, to side for entire performance, Ace just did not do well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUVyTs4FP1o
7. Carmen Rasmussen, And So it goes
And Vocalist worth their salt knows when to use Vibrato, and when not too. For that reason alone, Rasmussen’s painful rendition deserves to be on this list. Her forced vibrato made her sound even pitchier than normal. Just painful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2i2wPjjKog
8. Janay Castine, Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)
Hit Em up Style is not a vocally challenging song, nor is it very interesting. If Janay had given a lukewarm performance of a particularly difficult song, she might not have made this list. J9. Haeley Vaughn, I Wanna Hold Your HandThis ear shattering performance deserves it place on this list.Haeley Vaughn’s attempt to make this song here own just did not do it justice. She was quite pitchy throughout the song, and to complete the performance, she had on one of the most unusual outfits I have ever seen on American Idol. Certainly someone tells these people how they look before they go on stage. Whoever was responsible for doing that for her should be fired?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-xZj1lRaFQ
10. John Stevens, ”Music of My Heart”
John Stevens did something I have never seen on an American Idol finals performance: he managed to stay off key the entire song. Seriously, the studio should have claimed to have technical difficulties and cut his performance short. It would have saved everyone, including John a lot of pain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4qnSe1kwXk
