Summer is an exciting season for everyone, that’s for sure! Especially for the kids! Not only are they off from school but have the time to play all day long. The best of all are the outdoor activities they can do with the family. You might also be planning now the different activities you can do to bond with them. Provided that there is a list of endless possibilities to have fun this summer. Nevertheless water parks are sure to be one of the kids’ top favorites. That is why we have listed our ten most important reminders to share with you. We hope these could help you in one way or another.
1. Make a “must-bring” checklist.
It is ideal to make a checklist of all the things you need to bring with you to the water park. This is especially helpful to those who have a handful of kids. Include sun block lotion, towels, after-sun lotion, and drinking water as the essentials. Make sure to bring extra diapers if you have infants. We recommend bringing your own swim rings for your infants and toddlers. This is preferably the best thing to do to assure you they are using a clean and safe swim rings that are well fitted for them. But if you choose not to, most water parks offer a free use of life jackets for the little ones. Once again take a look at your checklist before leaving the house.
2. Be a wise sunblock user.
It is important to wear a sunblock, suncream or sunscreen; however you want to call it. We know that it basically helps us avoid sunburn and skin cancer or melanoma. But take note of the warning that has been recently reminded again to the public. Do not buy sunblock lotion with a high percentage of oxybenzone. Or better yet avoid buying one with oxybenzone. This active ingredient is a suspected photocarcinogen which can possibly cause skin cancer. Read the article “Are Sunscreen Products Safe?” to know more.
It is said that the best way to keep you protected is to apply sunblock lotion 15-30 minutes before exposing to the sun. Then after the first 15-30 minutes of exposure, reapply the sunblock lotion again. Some researchers even indicated the need of reapplying sunblock every 2 hours of sun exposure. Another good way of protecting yourself from the harmful sunrays is avoiding too much sunlight. It can also help you refrain using too much sunblock. Keep in mind not to solely rely on your sunblock lotion to keep you protected. You need to be conscious on how long you have stayed under the sun as well.
3. Drink plenty of water.
Remember to often refresh your body with drinking water during your stay at the water park. It helps you from having headache cause by too much heat. And drinking water often can also prevent you from dehydration.
4. Get some shade too!
Water slides can really make your little ones super excited. Not to mention all the water features a water park has. Although you have to get some shade too once in a while! Remember that your sun block lotion is not the only solution to keep you protected from the harmful ultra-violet rays. You need to take a break from the sunlight. Rest and drink water. Reapply sun block if needed. If you can make your little ones stay put for a while, do it. Try to do this during the midday, when ultra-violet rays are the strongest. You can ask them to take lunch and chitchat on how has been the day for them so far.
5. Wear rubber slippers or pool slippers on hot sizzling days.
You will definitely have a lot of walking to do around the water park. That is why don’t tolerate the soles of your feet with the sun’s heat on the ground. Wear rubber or pool slippers to protect your feet. You are free to leave your slippers anywhere near the ride or pool you have chosen.
