The 2010-2011 school year is almost here. Parents will be fulfilling school supplies lists for their children so they will have the proper items needed to begin classes. Let’s take a look into some essentials elementary school children will need when they arrive on their first day of school.
#2 Pencils- Pencils will be needed for class so students can complete their assignments and bubble in their answers when taking a test. (Parents may want to check with the teachers to see if mechanical pencils are allowed).
Lined Paper- Depending on the teacher, parents may need to purchase wide ruled or college ruled paper. (Check with the teacher and see if students need loose leaf paper or subject notebooks, they may possibly need both).
Glue- Elementary age children will use quite a bit of glue for completing projects. (Check with the teacher to see if the student needs bottled glue or glue sticks, they may possibly need both).
Scissors- Students will need scissors for their class. This allows the student to cut out classroom projects.
Crayons- Elementary students will most likely engage in a lot of coloring. Buying an extra pack of crayons might be a great idea, as young students tend to break crayons easily.
Pencil Sharpener- This is an essential item, as students can sharpen their dull or broken pencil without having to get up out of their seat and possibly distracting the other students, especially during test or quiz times.
Colored Pencils- Some teachers prefer their students to use colored pencils instead of crayons. (Check with the teacher and see which coloring utensil your child needs, they might need both).
Handwriting Paper-This is an important item for the younger elementary students in Kindergarten thru third grade. Teachers use this special lined paper to teach the students how to properly write their alphabet.
Pencil Box- This is a great item for students to have so they can keep all their pencils and other small supplies organized in one location, it is also easy to store away in their desk.
Backpack- A backpack is a great essential to have so students can carry any books or other supplies home that they may need to complete any homework or graded papers given by their teacher.
When purchasing your child’s essentials for school, it might be a great idea to check with the teachers and school board first. Some schools have certain rules on what type of backpacks may be allowed.
Keep in mind that this is just a list of a few of the essentials that your child will need. Teachers may send home a supplies list at the end of the first day of items that are also needed.
