If you watched the last episode which aired June 15, 2010, of the ‘˜Deadliest Catch,’ you would have seen the onset of Captain Phil’s stroke and a blowout he had with his son Josh Harris. While the camera showed Phil in pain and not feeling up to par, he pulls the crew off the deck because he couldn’t concentrate.
Phil went below to get some pain meds for his back and found his son, Josh, stealing his pain meds. This is where the blew up began and Josh admitted to being a drug addict. This is where this episode ends.
At the end of the show, we were given a glimpse into next week’s episode. They show Captain Phil Harris being taken off the Cornelia Marie in a basket through the crane of the crab boat. This scene creeped this viewer out because the beginning of this week’s episode started with the Coast Guard air lifting a crew member off of another crab boat who had suffered a heart attack.
Now that you are caught up to where the story changes for the ‘˜Deadliest Catch’ show, Discovery Channel has decided to turn the rest of Season 6 into a dedication to Captain Phil Harris. While it’s going to be tough to watch for me and many other fans, the ‘˜After the Catch’ episode may be even harder to watch since it comes on right after ‘˜Deadliest Catch.’
What does ‘˜After the Catch’ have to do with next week’s episode of ‘˜Deadliest Catch?’ Everything. Tuesday night’s new episode of ‘˜After the Catch’ started with Sig and brothers, the Hillstrand brothers, and Keith Coburn. The beginning was a bit somber with an open seat dedicated to Captain Phil Harris. While talking throughout the show, the other captains remembered Phil telling them of things not to do and breaking up the shoving match between John and Keith. While Jonathan became teary-eyed after a video of Phil and him riding motorcycles together, Phil Harris is still on the minds of all the ‘˜Deadliest Catch’ captains.
Between ‘˜Deadliest Catch’ and ‘˜After the Catch,’ the next few weeks are going to be the hardest to watch because we know the gang are going to give us an up-close personal view of the final days of Captain Phil Harris’ life.
